About SDP approved

SDP is a UK approval scheme for Valve Regulated Lead Acid VRLA / Sealed Lead Acid Batteries including AGM Advanced Glass Mat and Gell Types

Applications of which include:

• Alarm System
• Golf buggies
• Medical Equipment
• Mobility Equipment
• Toys
• UPS (Uninterruptible power supply)

The Standard is granted to batteries that pass a number of Criteria. Batteries that can pass these rigorous testing procedures can have the SDP Approved logo applied to them. See below:

Testing Performance

The batteries are tested for performance. The approval is only achieved if the battery is suitable for all the above applications including Cyclic, Standby and Medical * applications.

The batteries are cycled repeatedly to a minimum acceptable standardThe batteries are reverse assembled and the components inspected for quality, design and chemical composition.

The approval does not in any way guarantee the products ongoing quality other the sample tested and approval only last for one year.

The approval is only given to individual products not to manufacturers.

Medical

Medical applications are approved to OEM or aftermarket applications, however they approval does not cover Life critical equipment. As far as we are aware no battery manufacturer currently warrants such applications. Therefore battery powered life critical equipment should only be used with a suitable available back up.
